ASL: Everything is in Progress
After a few business trips and other life confusion, my ASL habit has taken a hit.
Here is what I am currently up to:
VASL League Round 2: Matched up against Andy, who lives a few blocks from me and is a semi regular opponent. We are going to do A Bloody Waste (AP80) from Action Pack 8, Roads Through Rome. I think I am taking the Amis in this, which will be fun. However, we first have to finish up…
First Love (J131) (2nd Take) : This is about 3 hours of game and we have put about 2 into it. This is our second time through. Bot of my MMGs and my HMG broke as soon as I tried to use them. So despite the fact that I am doing better with LOS this game, my poor IJA are being overrun in a hurry.
Merzenhausen Zoo (J19): Luke and I are two turns through this, and are going through this at about a turn a session. This is a neat scenario, sort of a reimagining of Cold Crocodiles with Germans holding onto a town while being overrun by lots of armour and troops. It’s big, though, and the weird vehicle are slowing us down. Also: I really am not sure how to use AFVs beyond moving, shooting, and coughing up smoke. We have both lost a few tanks at this point, but it is very unclear where the balance of power is headed. I feel like I am behind the eight-ball, though, as I am defending against so much stuff. God bless those Stugs, though.
Shanghai By Sea (FT136): Chris Doary suggested that Sebastian and I give this a shot instead of Red Mike as our next sea assault scenario. It’s manageable, although the Chinese are getting overrun in a hurry. I had been banking on NQ to get me out of some rough circumstances only to discover to have Sebastian point out that “The scenario is in 1937, the NQ rule with Chinese/IJA doesn’t happen until 1938.” These punishing facts aside, the Chinese have been doing some pretty good shooting.
So an even mix of ETO and PTO. I haven’t won a game yet, this year, although I have only finished 5. Oh well. I am eager to get to a tournament, but am unsure if I will get to CASLO again (it’s in Calgary, where I lived for a year), but am very determined to get to ASLOK. I am toying with trying to organize an Office Fest level tournament in Toronto, either later in the year or next. Something else to go into the pile of things to do.
